SUFC Trust Futsal Scholarship wins National Championship

Scunthorpe United Futsal Scholarship win National Championship.

North Lindsey College's partner Scunthorpe United have recently been crowned National Champions at the end of season finals in Birmingham.

The team went into National finals day as the favorites after finishing top of the league in the regular season without losing a game.

The day started the day with a 4-0 victory over Premier League Southampton, followed by 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers. Going to the last group game against local rivals Grimsby Town the Scunthorpe lads knew they were already safely through to the Semi final. The Iron drew 1-1 with their Lincolnshire counterparts.

The four teams were then drawn for a hat to make up the semi finals, predictably the boys were drawn against Grimsby Town. The North Lindsey College students put in a stellar performance beating Grimsby 4-0 to progress to the final where they were to meet Sheffield United.

The final was a tense affair with both teams having chances but not finding the killer touch to find the back of the night. Finally with thirty seconds left on the clock Ben Morrell struck from a set piece to seal victory for The Iron.

Student Ben Morrell commented " It has been a fantastic year and my most enjoyable in education. The course is geared around working hard in the classroom and then progressing on the futsal court. To score the winning goal in the final was amazing and a great way to cap off my 1st year with Scunthorpe United and North Lindsey College. I can wait to start back in September with the rest of students and have another brilliant year"

Education Manager Gav Cooper commented "The schoalrship is going from strength to strength each year and the students wouldn't of been able to succeed on the Futsal court if it wasn't for the support they receive in the classroom from the teacher Wayne Johnson and the high standards set by the college. There is no other course like it in the town and students are seeing the benefit of working with a fantastic college and a professional football club"
